Interstate 65 rolls through Jeffersonville on its way north to the Great Lakes and south to the Gulf of Mexico. As we all know, traffic on the highway is fast and dangerous.
A young mother of two was recently driving north of us on I-65 when she heard a noise coming from her SUV. So she pulled over to check it out, careful to park her vehicle on the outer shoulder. Unfortunately, her caution did not prevent an 18-wheeler from striking her as she stood outside, throwing her under her vehicle. The truck accident left the 30-year-old dead along the highway in Rensselaer, Indiana.
Inside the SUV were the woman's mother and her two young children, law enforcement officials said.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver sped off, driving south, police said.
Friends of the woman describe her as a devoted mother who was blessed with an infectious smile. "I don't know how you could describe her and not use the word 'smile,'" one friend said. "She had one of the best smiles I've ever seen."
We hope that those who love her are able to help her young kids cope with this immeasurable loss; one they will feel for the rest of their lives.
There is no way to undo this nightmare for those kids or for the mother who was a witness to her daughter's death. But some families in similar circumstances gain a measure of closure when they pursue justice against the perpetrator.
An experienced Jeffersonville wrongful death attorney can help you and your family in that pursuit.
