Animal attack requires medevac of young child

Posted by Kenneth Doane | May 05, 2016 | 0 Comments

An animal attack can happen anywhere. Animal attacks might occur on a neighbor's property, walking along the street or even at a location that seems safe, such as a local Humane Society. Indiana residents may be alarmed to learn that a six year old boy was recently bitten by an animal at a Humane Society branch in Maryland.

The animal bite necessitated significant medical intervention. The child was treated by emergency personnel at the scene of the attack, and was then flown by medevac to a regional trauma medical center. Though the injuries were deemed to be serious enough for medevac intervention, they were not life-threatening. The local fire department is investigating the incident and how it occurred.

After an animal bite injury, it is important for a victim to seek prompt medical attention, as the injuries can be severe, as they were in this case. Prompt medical attention is particularly important if a victim receives a deep puncture wound. If a victim is bleeding significantly or his or her skin is torn, it is also essential to seek medical attention. An infection may develop following an animal bite, as well. Signs of an infection include redness, swelling or increased oozing or pain.

Animal attacks can result in physical pain, as well as scarring, disfigurement and emotional trauma. A child who suffers from an animal bite, such as the one in this case, may be particularly traumatized by the frightening experience.

If you or a loved one have been attacked by an animal, you may have a legal cause of action. An attorney can offer guidance regarding your rights and options.
